Pioneer project which accommodates the needs of all four counties in the Region of Western Macedonia. It started operating in May 2005. The first phase of the project includes the construction and operation of the Sanitary Landfill Site for the municipal solid waste at an area in the North Field of the lignite center of Ptolemaida-Amyntaio. There the extraction works have been completed. What distinguishes this project is the dynamic compression of lignite waste disposal which comes from the Public Power Corporation S.A. and which reaches the height of seven meters. The project comprises the construction of 40.000m2 waste disposal basin in a specially designed area of 100.000 m2.
